We have detailed knowledge of the most active library consortia that purchase e-books, e-journals and other content for their member libraries.

Consortium Purchasing Directory Edition 4 (Published April 2009)
The Consortium Purchasing Directory remains the most comprehensive guide to the library consortium market currently available. It provides profiles on library consortia that aquire content for their member libraries. These are primarily academic, medical, public, school and government libraries.

The Directory is devised to assist publishers and vendors in dealing with the library consortium market.  It contains information on some of the key issues of negotiation and provides links to the statements of policy and principle from major library groups around the world and further resources such as licensing models.

New for 2009
New consortia continue to emerge, the first edition of this Directory, published in early-2003 comprised 164 entries; the second published in mid-2004 profiled 242 consortia; the third published in May 2007 contained 301; and this fourth edition includes 338 library consortium profiles.

The Directory contains a range of introductory information. The main profiles are collated into 15 folders, each representing a region of the world.  The 15 regions are listed below (numbers in brackets represent the number of consortia in each region).

Each folder contains regional background information related to the library consortium market and statistics from the OECD and World Bank. Each consortium profile contains information such as full contact details, member lists with links to contact details where possible, products licensed, and any background information available such as aims and objectives, acquisition policy, financial details and consortium structure.  Where possible committee and boards are also listed and links provided to any relevant information such as model licences and FTE data.
